I did a PSA for the Sierra Club on Global Warming - William Shatner's MySpace Blog |

Please watch William Shatner's video on Global Warming. Great message, delivered by one of my all-time fave actors!
Those of you who don't believe in Global Warming, you don't spend enough time reading the output of our research universities, NASA, etc, and you should spend more time watching Nova, Nature, Science Channel, and maybe that couple of university research stations on Dish Network. Notice how much smaller the polar ice caps are.

Did you hear on the news that Mauritius is no more, and many island nations are vanishing beneath the waves? Surely you've noticed how many more hurricanes and how much more violent they are nowadays. There are more tornadoes, floods, weather extremes, than ever before, and it's time for all of us to do something to help.

I have compact fluorescents, a smaller refrigerator, and we use the microwave exclusively for cooking, not just to reheat stuff. There are many small things you can do to live a greener life. Tiny changes in enough households means reduction of CO2 on a large scale. I am still trying to figure out how to build a tiny biogas generator from our pet waste. If I had the money, my plumber was sure he could rig something up :)

Recycle something. Buy a shopping bag. Just turn off the lights when you leave a room. And, drive for fuel efficiency; there was a Reader's Digest article some years ago where they hired two groups to drive from NY to California. One group habitually broke traffic laws and were prone to speeding. The other faithfully followed the laws and kept the speed limit. Guess who got to CA first? Both groups arrived at the same time. This article made quite an impression on me in my teens, and I started driving with fuel efficiency in mind. This was in 1976 when gas was only .50 a gallon, but soon we had the gas crisis, and I was glad I learned conservative habits. Try turning your car off when you pull up to the fast food window. If you will be running for 30 seconds, you will save gas by turning it off and recranking.

Bug your local leaders about more sidewalks and more walking paths in neighborhoods. If you need to visit the convenience store, how about walking? I have a car, but use my motorized wheelchair to go uptown [about a mile] for quick shopping trips. When in large cities, I take the buses and trains -- and enjoy being able to relax and watch the scenery go by. I like driving, but there's always the temptation to want to do something else while driving. I can get my way by using public transportation. Too many newer neighborhoods lack bus service and sidewalks. Add your voice and make it happen. DOT Engineers have been very nice to me when I've called to inquire about sidewalks. So have the Bike Route coordintors in GA [no, I can't ride one, but wheelchairs and golf carts used as mobility devices can use bike paths, if planners allow it].

Have more ideas? Write me and share it on the Internet. Together, a lot of us can make a difference, no matter where we live! But, start by watching this video.
